GALLIPOLI SOLDIER

Enjoy the latest art from Middle Matters! After studying Sidney Nolan's Gallipoli soldier images, we researched soldiers and nurses from the Gallipoli campaign. After practising our sketches, we applied a thick layer of paint, then sketched our chosen images with the handle of our paintbrushes.

Max Ernst inspired Collages

We took Max Ernst as the inspiration to create our own surreal collages. First we chose a black and white background and then we selected pictures from magazines. We pasted them onto our backgrounds. Text was also used to create more interest. We had a lot of fun making them and they all look great!

REVISITING THE INSPIRATION OF FRED WILLIAMS

Fred Williams spent a great deal of time in Europe. Australia is so different to England and Europe, as he found out when he returned to Australia. The colours here are so vibrant and strong compared to the soft blues and greys that he was used to. He painted the Australian landscape with new vibrancy. We viewed images of his forest works including, "Sherbrooke 1961." The artist liked the strong vertical lines of the tree trunks making a pattern across the page. By having no horizon line, he created the impression of being in the middle of a dense forest. Afterwards, we created a variety of interpretations based on the Australian landscape. Fred Williams Art - The inspiring red dry landscapes of Australia are all rolled into one artistic masterpiece in Fred Williams, "My Garden." 

We put our ideas on the paper, interpreting his style and ideas as we went. Australia is so different to England and Europe, as he found out on his way back to Australia after travelling to Europe -and which led him to become a contemporary artist.The colours here are so vibrant and strong compared to the soft blues and grays that he was used to. 

We used orange and red paint as a backdrop and, once that was dry, we printed with cardboard or painted on trees and shrubs with black and white paint. Overall this art was very interesting and fun. It didn’t really matter if you accidently splattered paint or put a huge blot on your work because it was easily covered up. We were all inspired greatly and the end result was amazing! CONFIRMATION-ICONS

As we prepared to run our Confirmation parent night, we decided to simply display the research done about our chosen saints, accompanied by an icon that we had created to represent our saint. Using the inspiration of other icons of our saint, we created our own representations!

Inspired by Sidney Nolan's "Ned Kelly" series and our current inquiry, "History in the Making," we have created our artworks about Ned Kelly.

AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE-COLLAGE

Using our newly acquired photography skills, we snapped some of the beautiful foliage in our school ground. Using our photographs, we created collages to represent Australian landscapes.
